Artificial Selection

Artificial Selection

"Artificial Selection is a technique in which indivisual plants or animals with desirable traits are bred together to develop plants or animals with specific traits ; Also called selective breeding." -Science Focus 9

In the 1800s, Charles Darwin made discoveries on the orgin of species. These discoveries later developed in the 1930s into Artificial Selection and Selective Breeding.

When breeding dogs, The Dog breeder selects certain dogs with characteristics that the dog owner desires. It shows the breeding of the certain characteristics that need to be combined to make a better breed.

Ethical/Social Issues:

Some dog breeders inbreed to create a dog with the same characteristics over and over, but this causes defects in thier DNA, then the dog is disabled. If dogs are in bred they become disable, Mentally and Physically

Example:

Cows are leaner and healthier so they are better to eat, this is a product of artificial selection.

- Hunting Dogs are bred to not bark and be intelligent so they can be trained not to eat thier prey.

- Dashchunds are bred to be good diggers, Loud and have no fear so that they can kill badgers.
